limerence
/ˈlɪmərəns/
EN
An involuntary state of intense romantic or emotional infatuation with another person, often accompanied by intrusive thoughts, craving for reciprocation, and emotional dependency.
Many people confuse limerence with deep love, as it creates an overwhelming obsessive focus on the object of one's affection.
Etymology
Coined by psychologist Dorothy Tennov in 1979 to describe this distinct psychological state; it is thought to derive from the word "limerent", which Tennov created as a neologism to label the uncategorized experience.
